Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder that affects 1 in 5 women. The diagnosis of PCOS is made by a woman having 2 of the 3 following characteristics:
1. Inability to release an egg, also called Anovulation
2. Increased male hormone levels ( androgens, testosterone)
3. Cysts appearing on the ovaries during a vaginal ultrasound.
Diagnosis may vary per state/ region
Women with PCOS may have irregular menstrual cycles, facial hair, acne and/or infertility
